Yes. This K53 learners test is completely free to use, with no sign-up or login required. You can practise as many times as you like on your phone or computer.
How many questions are in the K53 learners test?
The official K53 learners licence test has 68 questions: 30 on the rules of the road, 30 on road signs and markings, and 8 on vehicle controls. Some testing centres use a 64-question version, but the structure is the same.
What is the pass mark for the K53 learners test?
You must pass every section on its own: 22 out of 30 for rules of the road, 23 out of 30 for road signs, and 6 out of 8 for vehicle controls. Overall this is about 78%.

It covers South African road signs, signals and markings, the rules of the road (speed limits, following distance, right of way, parking and more), and the controls of the vehicle.
How long is a learner's licence valid for?
A learner's licence is valid for 24 months. You must obtain your driving licence within that period, otherwise you have to write the learner's test again.
Do the practice questions change each time?
Yes. Every test is randomly generated and the answer options are shuffled, so you get a fresh mix of questions each time you practise.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes. It works in any phone or computer browser with nothing to install, and you can add it to your home screen to use it like an app, even offline.
Is this the official K53 test?
No. This is a free practice test that mirrors the official K53 format and is based on South African road-traffic rules. Always confirm the current rules, format and pass marks with your local Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC).
